Country Living, a widely-read travel and lifestyle magazine and website, recently listed Burnsville in this year’s “Top 20 Small Mountain Towns To Visit This Summer.” As the closest town to Mountain Air, this quaint and friendly hamlet is just minutes from the gate and offers a convenient spot for local flavor, shopping, supplies and services.
Taking off took on a different meaning recently on the Mountain Air runway as Porsche drivers from three states visited for another “Cars & Coffee” event, sponsored by Porsche Asheville and the Mountain Air Property Owners Association.
Getting things started was the scenic three-mile drive up Slickrock Mountain to the runway, situated at 4,600 feet above sea level. The Porsche group lined up their cars and enjoyed a morning outing with long-range views. The highlight for most was an opportunity to make a high-speed run down the runway, with several Mountain Air residents joining in the fun with their cars.

The Mountain Air Community Fund is continuing its long history of providing support and funding to worthy causes throughout our area. The 2018 year produced excellent results in terms of giving, and the fund has nearly $80,000 to award.
Community Fund members have been combing over fifteen grant submissions from area non-profits. The group will be making site visits and final grant decisions by the end of June, with donations beginning in July.
And, just as critical, 2019 contributions already are coming in, and a number of upcoming events will further add to the total. There are many ways to participate in the Community Fund in addition to partaking in our events. More and more donations are being received in honor of loved ones for special occasions, honors and memorials. Knowing that your contribution goes to help others makes a wonderful gift.
The Mountain Air Community Fund has granted over $500,000 in the last ten years to 40+ non-profits to provide funding for various programs in Yancey County. Funding went toward feeding school children, college scholarships, drug education, filling a local food pantry, training special needs teachers, introducing chamber music to children, starting summer reading and theater programs, funding a therapeutic riding center, providing housing for underprivileged families, special programs for autistic children, and supported a battered women’s shelter.

If you ask residents of Mountain Air what puts a smile on their faces as they drive through the gate and see the “Welcome Home” sign, they won’t give you just one or two good reasons. In fact, they’ll probably give you at least ten good reasons this private community is a special place offering a gracious and unique lifestyle with something for everyone.
You can explore all of these reasons in a recent article that appeared in Fine Homes & Design, which features luxury living options throughout Western North Carolina. Click here to find out why Mountain Air is a wonderful place to call home.
